UniCredit Bank AG (HypoVereinsbank) is a universal bank doing business with customers in retail and corporate banking and commercial real estate financing. It is also active on the international capital markets.

The bank is the result of the merger of Bayerische Vereinsbank and Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank in 1998. The latter was founded in Munich in 1835 on the initiative of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. Following the 1998 merger, the integration of Austria’s Bank Austria Creditanstalt was carried out from 2000 to 2002. Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank AG joined UniCredit in 2005. On 15 December 2009, the legal name of Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank was changed to UniCredit Bank AG.
