Bank Pekao operates for more than 80 years and is one of the largest financial institutions in Central and Eastern Europe.

Bank Pekao was established in 1929. After the transformation of the economy in 1989, the bank started to implement a strategy of development based on universal banking with focus on retail, corporate and investment banking. The privatisation of the bank started in 1998. Since 3 August 1999, Bank Pekao has been a member of UniCredit.

A challenging venture in the long history of the bank was the merger of Bank Pekao with part of Bank BPH. The integration was a consequence of the merger of UniCredit and HVB Group in June 2005.
