In 1991, the Austrian Länderbank and Slovenijales d.d. Ljubljana founded the mixed company Länder Bank d.d. Ljubljana, which was renamed Bank Austria d.d. Ljubljana in 1992. In the same year, the Austrian bank Creditanstalt took over Nova banka d.d. Ljubljana and named it Creditanstalt–Nova banka d.d. Ljubljana, later renamed Banka Creditanstalt d.d. Banka Creditanstalt d.d. and Bank Austria Ljubljana d.d. merged in 1998, forming Bank Austria Creditanstalt d.d. Ljubljana in 1999.
In 2001, HVB Group in Munich took over Bank Austria Creditanstalt AG in Vienna. In 2005, UniCredit Group combined its business with HVB Group, Bank Austria Creditanstalt d.d. Ljubljana thus becoming a member of UniCredit Group.
In 2007, Bank Austria Creditanstalt d.d. Ljubljana was renamed UniCredit Banka Slovenija d.d.
